In a widely publicized briefing @PrinSciAdvGoI underscored the importance of a) every individual citizen adopting physical distancing measures and b) vaccinations. He also said a third phase of #COVID19India is inevitable. What I like about that last statement? 1/
For once a scientist is standing up and not painting a rosy picture - a story we all want to hear; @PrinSciAdvGoI is talking of a scenario that is very probable based on experience of #COVID19 in other nations + the science of viral variants and mutations that he should know . 2/
How would that help public policy and behavior? Talking of the worst possibility prepares the nation and its citizens to adopt mitigation strategies that may become the difference between life and death, and another future #COVID19 growth spurt. 3/
If another growth spurt is avoided, it is would not be a failure of the proposition of a possible third phase; it would be its victory. We have all been guilty of being too optimistic and lowering our guard. Let us learn from our mistakes. Well done @kvijayraghavan. 4/n
