Interesting interview on @BBCr4today by @JustinOnWeb with @SecBlinken on trade deals and the NI protocol - but very frustrating... missed the key question. would the US do a trade deal with the UK if it signed up to align SPS with EU
that is widely seen as the critical structural way of long-term de-dramatisation by people in NI - but UK govt resisting on sovereignty/independent trade policy grounds.
US could change the game - indeed it could say that its priority to protect the Good Friday Agreement meant that this administration would not talk trade with the UK until it sorted out agrifood trade in NI
But that would mean the US showing it valued stability in the island of Ireland over the interests of Delaware chicken farmers and US beef farmers....maybe too political a question on election day but would have been great to press him.
