Anyone who has been paying attention would have realised that the happenings in Nigeria today are not coincidental but the manifestation of one thing. For too long Nigeria was built on, and thrived on, injustice. We are only now reaping the fruits. Let me highlight one aspect.
One of the hallmarks of a society built on equity, fairness, & justice is that the citizens (and residents) aspire to rise to the top of their chosen professions and put in the required hardwork. God willing & goodhealth permitting, hardwork pays and they almost always rise.
In Nigeria, for too long we have placed glass ceilings to prevent people from rising to the top due to factors such as religion, ethnicity, gender, demography. We have seen it in different aspects of our national life. Unfortunately, for too long we kept an undignified silence.
Imagine putting in the hard work for over 25/30 years and having your career cut short just before you get to the top and the reason is not that you were incompetent or that you found guilty of any infraction but only because of  the circumstances of your birth.
We all know the high profile example of Walter Nkanu Onnoghen, first CJN from the Southern part of the country in 30 years. He was unconstitutionally & unceremoniously removed from office by an order made ex parte by a CCT Chairman who himself was facing corruption charges.
We also saw how a Police AIG who was reportedly the only person qualified for appointment as IGP was curiously promoted and retired from office with almost 10 years left just because of his religion & ethnic origin and they wanted to pave the way for a favoured person to emerge.
A lesser known example is that of the Ag. Registrar General of the Corporate Affairs Commission ("CAC") Azuka Azinge. Azinge rose through the ranks to become the first female Ag RG and reportedly the first from the Southern part of Nigeria since creation of the CAC by CAMA 1990.
Several lawyers who use the services of the CAC have testified that she was very good at her job, extremely delightful and gracious in her dealings with CAC's service users, and had a long line of achievements in her little time in office.
Her achievements include drastically reducing the business registration time, expanding online registration to all the States, successfully implemented a strategy which halved the cost of business registration, cleared the backlog of salary arrears & restored industrial harmony.
On 24 December 2019, while the rest of the country was preparing to celebrate Christmas, the same Danladi Umar led CCT granted an order (made ex parte of course) to suspend Azinge from office. It has been over 16 months so clearly her time in office has well & truly ended.
Who ultimately replaced Azinge as Registrar General? Alhaji Garba Abubakar. I do not directly use the services of the CAC but I work directly those who do? Can someone please Nigerians how Alhaji Abubakar has fared as RG CAC?
Let me end how I started, a country built on equity, fairness & justice or in the case of Nigeria, "Unity & Faith, Peace and Progress" should not give the impression that coming from a particular ethnic group is an automatic stumbling block to progress. Injustice breeds crisis.
