Let's start from the start

My Process:

1] Follow @mybmc , turn notifications ON and wait for their super helpful tweet announcing the time the slots are expected to go live (~7:30PM)

2] Set a timer which beeps every 15 seconds (YouTube Videos help) at 7:20

3] Refresh everytime the timer beeps

BOOM

I got it In my 2nd try. Nair Hospital went live first. Tried it, got stuck on Confirm screen like many others

Came back, refreshed and found Cooper Hospital

Pro Tip

Instead of Reloading the page, keep hitting search again and again, the results show up faster

Also, it's possible that Arogya Setu and Cowin show different hospitals

Bug? Load Balancing? Equally probable. Check both

Prep for the day

I'm on my way to the center now. I'm wearing a tshirt to enable easy access to my shoulder.

Cancelled all meetings, told my colleagues etc

Spoke to a couple of people, watched a couple of videos, surprisingly, nothing very tactical/helpful on YouTube

I've charged my phone to 90% and I've packed a bag anticipating 4hrs of wait time. What am I carrying

- Water
- Hanky
- Biscuits (For the way back)
- Extra Mask
- Sanitiser
- Headphones
- Powerbank

How am I planning to go to the center?

Missed opportunity

Hello Cooper

When I entered, I felt a little confused

Would've liked to see big bold signages helping me navigate without any touch point

If there were signages, I didn't see them (my mistake)

I to a cop and asked him for directions

Many cops, lots of ambulances and sirens hit me

There were some people selling products and meal kits as well

Finally found a board and some signages telling me that vaccination was ON

Translation:

- Starts at 9AM. Today 1st dose only for 18 to 45.
- 2nd dose, covishield for all. No walkins

There were a lot of cops and lot of people trying to get in (without an appointment, walk in).

Cops were pleading them to go and thatbthe6 cannot help

I was about to (stupidly) line up but instead, decided to ask "Is this line was for registered folks?"

The cop shouted NO and moved the barricade allowing me to get in. Other walk in folks, were not happy.

Once in, I again asked a cop what to do? He pointed me to 2 lines:

>45 Second Dose
< 45 First Dose

Within minutes, a doc came & handed out tokens to people sequentially

I was asked to produce my "appointment confirmation". I showed Arogya Setu and I was given a token

Waiting time ~3 mins

Next, I walked up to a desk & a very enthusiastic lady greeted me. Checked

- Aadhaar
- Arogya Setu

She also asked me many questions like

Consumed alcohol in < 24h?
Had breakfast? (Yes is expected)
On any medication?
Fever etc in last 48hrs?

She signed my "in" time on token and I was for next round

No waiting time. Sorry didn't get to click a picture here

Next, I was directly inside the booth.

This bro checked my aadhar and other details.

They're using Arogya Setu admin app. The UI is NOT bad

Bro was very very fast hammering into hid tab

1 lady was getting her vaccine. My wait time here was 1 minute.

Was handed 2 pills (aspirin?) and was told to ice my shoulder at night

Next, follow the yellow arrows for observation

In the observation room, was asked to enter my name & phone number and sit with others for 30 mins.

My token had an "in"(jection?) time and and "out" time of + 30 mins

TOI also had a booth for it's captive audience

Waited 30 mins, exited the room and handed off my token at the exit check point.

Walked out, got into an uber and chatted with Vinod bhai on the way back

Vinod bhai tells me pre-post lockdown stories. 50k to 7k pee month for him. Only his second ride of the day

Rides with docs and is collecting information from each passenger.

Tried walk in but got pushed out. Says Uber won't pay him for his vaccination and that private hospitals charging 600 is a loot

He couldn't find a slot and is skeptical if he ever will because of the rich/powerf

Okay 30 mins in, I'm starting to feel a little diZZY.

My thumbs don't have too much power to push out tweets.

Reaching home in 5. Feeling a sting in my shoulder now.

Ola! I'm back after a much needed nap + chai + biscuits

Feeling much better now. My cab ride back home can be broken down into 3 parts:

1: I'm fine. Nothing's happened
2: I'm starting to feel dizzy
3: I'm not going to get up from this cab

On my way back, I got a chance to peek into Nanavati hospital from the cab.

People had lined up outside the hospital in peak 2PM heat. Thank god Cooper's entire process

a) Got over in < 10 mins (40 overall including observation)
b) Everything under a shed without any lines

Time to thank the people involved. Scientists at Oxford Astrazeneca & other institutions, Scientists & medical practitioners in India, GoI, MahGov, BMC, Staff at Cooper and all the frontline workers and support staff keeping the system up and running including cops, drivers etc

What am I feeling? Lot of gratitude to begin with. But also some pain in my arm and weakness overall.

But I'm able to talk and even check my notifications now.

I think I got a punch relatively sooner, will keep yall posted about what happenes in the next 2 days

Figured I'm one of the 1st few in the country to have received the so I should be documenting the journey & anxiety points
