Been doing a ton of experimentation with subpixels recently
Downscaled 3x
Nearest neighbour vs bilinear vs bilinear vertically and squashed to individual subpixels horizontally

There is definitely a difference in clarity but it's so subtle that I understand why we mostly don't bother with it, besides windows' cleartype thing
You know how the 3ds's top screen has actually double the amount of pixels horizontally, can modders take advantage of that extra horizonal resolution with 3d off? that plus using the rgb subpixels means the clarity of stuff on that screen could potentially boosted by 6x
it's been something I've been thinking about for a long while
I really want to see that top screen used to its full potential
Even without the subpixel shenanigans, the double horizontal resolution would look so good (simulated at the 3ds resolution(s))
*Eye hurt warning*
This is how sharp the 3DS top screen could potentially look (cropped to 900x900px so twitter doesn't compress)
1st is how the screen usually is, 2nd is with double horizontal resolution and 3rd is double horizontal resolution plus the subpixel stuff

open each image in a new tab at 100% zoom (native resolution) and flip between tabs for a clearer comparison
Here's a gif but I'm not sure how it will look with the way Twitter handles gifs
I imagine it would look amazing on the 3DS screen itself at that small size. Would make the screen look more like a modern one.
