1997 v 1619
and idk maybe the world’s largest and kitschiest Swarovski chandelier isn’t exactly comparable to the one of the most sublime architectural domes in the Islamic world
it’s almost as if the original poster googled “Islamic architecture” and posted the first four photos oh ... oh wait..
so before you appropriate islamic architecture to make your myopic statement bemoaning the state of contemporary architecture, maybe do a bit of fact checking about the photos you post. Thank you and goodnight.
actually, no, not goodnight. let me just point out that OP actually didn’t post the first four photos but skipped over: taj mahal (too normie) dome of the rock (politics) and, an example of an interesting contemporary Islamic building!
But sean! contemporary architecture in the Middle East is western influenced and mostly silly glass shapes! no - shut up. Sancaklar Mosque in Istanbul. ephemeral. amazing play with light. fantastic section that neatly engages the building with its surrounding landscape. many more
now - I rest. good riddance.
