Connecticut isn't just for prep schools and women who carry their dog in a purse--it's also home to many working class and even incarcerated people. Unfortunately, CT ALSO has the most expensive prison phone calls in America. Nobody should go broke just to talk to a loved one!
CT families spend 13.3 MILLION dollars talking to incarcerated persons every year. Much of that cash goes to the state and the prison phone contractor. Outside support from loved ones makes rehabilitation more likely and reentry into society easier. Sabotaging this is unethical.
People like @TomGores, the CEO of @PlatinumEquity, shouldn’t be allowed to grow rich from making inmates’ lives harder. As the owner of the Detroit Pistons (19-47 this season), Tom is no stranger to profiting off people’s pain—but he has taken it too far this time.
One way to help is donating to organizations like @WorthRises or @acluct! Another option is to support SB 972, a bill in CT that will make calls free to families who need them. Want to know more? Watch our act on prison calls here: https://twitter.com/FullFrontalSamB/status/1390075447862497284?s=20
