Rafael Espinal, head of Freelancers Union, admits to never working as freelancer. So how can he claim to speak for "millions" of ICs? He has zero idea how ICs work, what it takes to be one, how we work with our clients. 1/5
Espinal is a former NYS Assembly member w/political ties in NYC & Albany. He's a political operative. Richard Tumka, AFL-CIO, included him on YouTube to discuss the PRO Act. The AFL-CIO is pushing for the ABC Test. Espinal is speaking on behalf of what unions want, not ICs. 2/5
How can someone with no understanding of the day-to-day working of an IC business speak for us? Many IC associations have come out against the ABC Test. Espinal and FU don't speak for the 1,000s upon 1,000s of ICs opposing the ABC Test. These are real working ICs. 3/5
Associations of journalists, editors, writers, travel agents, truckers, financial advisors, and small business owners (among many others) have come out against the ABC Test. Espinal and FU speak for none of these ICs. 4/5
Espinal is going against what these associations and their many thousands of members want: removal of the ABC Test from the PRO Act. Talk to real ICs instead, not a political operative w/ zero IC experience. He doesn't speak for me. #FightforFreelancers #IRSnotABC 5/5
