40. Phonte - No News Is Good News

The 2000's torch bearer of "Everyman rap" returned w/ his sophomore solo: 10 concise tracks of traditional rhymes over a sonically unique sound bed

Te is in the DNA of Cole & Drake, so peep game if you don't know Paster Tigallo

Phonte - No News Is Good News scored an 8.5 from me

Opening with competitive braggadocio, as per rap tradition, the album quickly eases into introspection & solemn advice from a middle aged father to anyone who needs it, tackling rare subjects đŸ‘‡đŸŸ

2/3
3/3 Phonte (Cont)

But also keeping the cleverness one can expect from a Jedi master MC, so if you're too young for the topics to pertain to you, you're still thoroughly entertained

Stand outs:

- Expensive Genes
- Change Of Mind ft Freddie Gibbs
- Sweet You

39. 38 Spesh & Benny The Butcher - Stabbed & Shot - 8.5

38 is a god father of Upstate NY Hip Hop, an unsung veteran & one of the most under appreciated beatmakers of last decade.

38 & Benny go way back & it shows in their chemistry, because they do not miss

If you're any kind of Griselda fan, but defo if you like Tana Talk 3 or The Plugs I Met:

38's punchline mastery only adds to Benny's energy as they stomp over, triumphant, & soulful production

Stand outs:

- So Strategic
- Driver Seat
- Man Of The Kitchen

Conclusion/
38. Benny The Butcher - A Friend Of Ours - 8.5

Whether it's a "mixtape" or album, Benny always makes sure to give each project a distinctive purpose: you'll never get the same motif twice, unless it's specifically a sequel album.
This mafia family-themed project is his way of show casing El Camino, yet Benny still shines with what I consider his most underrated skill: Song writing

Recommended song:

- The Long Way
- 03' Draft
37. Eminem - Kamikaze - 8.5

The much discussed 10th solo offering from legend Marshall Mathers is a hardcore lyrical barrage in the vein of past legends who'd been counted out & had to remind the game of what they're capable of

Kamikaze sets the tone immediately w/ The Ringer:
comfortably the most competitive Intro of the year, & w/ it's energy through almost the entire album

Themes include respect for legends/traditions, w/ the occasional emotional ballad to break up the onslaught

Recommend song:

⁃Fall
⁃Not Alike
- Stepping Stones
Lil Wayne - Dedication 6: Reloaded - 8.5

Weezy's Dedication series is legendary for a reason. If you missed out on the old ones, 6 is the perfect jumping in point imo, as Wayne brings back his old formula of taking other artists hottest beats, then murdering them in ways đŸ‘‡đŸŸ
not thought of before

The key to its success tho, as w/ his older classic tapes, is that Wayne doesn't just throw a bunch of hot beats together: His mixtape(s) are curated carefully for a cohesive & balanced experience

Recommended:

⁃Big Bad Wolf
⁃Family Feud ft Drake
