AM is the process by which an affiliate earns a commission for marketing another person’s or company’s products.
The affiliate simply searches for a product they enjoy, then promotes that product and earns a piece of the profit from each sale they make.

e.g. Mr. A sells Perfume oils, Mrs. C is in dire need of some and do not know where to get them.
Mr. B enters into an agreement with Mr. A to promote some of the perfume oils and make a commission on each perfume oil he successfully promotes. You get?

Don’t confuse AM with Network Marketing (NM)/ Multi-Level Marketing (MLM).
In AM, your commission is not based on referrals, rather it is based on the product you successfully promote.

In NM/MLM, it is more of pyramid selling. It revolves around how many people are actually in your network i.e. how many people sign up under you and that determine your commission.
In AM, you join affiliate marketing programs and don’t require you to recruit anyone into a network.
Understanding the difference between AM and MLM can help you see how the first can actually result in a decent income.
In AM, you are at liberty to choose the products you sell based on your interest and your market. You have complete control over how you promote.
