There& #39;s an issue with the current method of the YouTube algorithm when it flags videos as "Made for Kids". Recently my friend @BalenaTweet had his "Sonic in Camping Chaos" video get flagged as "made for kids". To be clear the video is NOT intended for children.1/16
The video contains jokes and themes that are not suitable for children and is meant for general audiences from the age of 13-25. See the attached video and tell me if playing with gasoline and fire is appropriate for small kids. 2/16
This decision should obviously be made by the video creator. Who better of a judge than the one who made the video to determine their target audience. As shown in the chart below provided by Steve, his largest audience age demographic in 2020 is ages from 25 - 34 years. 3/16
After placing an appeal it got rejected in less than ten minutes, showing that not much review happened and someone probably skimmed through the video and thought, "Sonic + Animation = For Kids!!!" 4/16
After much support from the fans, @TeamYouTube said they& #39;d take a closer look but STILL determined that the content was made for kids, effectively rendering the creators judgement of target audience useless. 5/16
It doesn& #39;t help that these bot answers are of no help. "deciding if the video is made for kids depends on what audience you’re trying to reach and what’s in the content." As shown before the audience are mostly adults so it makes no sense why YouTube has the final say. 6/16
I understand wanting to create a platform safe for children to explore but if a parent doesn& #39;t monitor how their kids use the internet IT SHOULD NOT BE THE FAULT OF THE CONTENT CREATOR. To add fuel to the fire, just days later YouTube set Steves JP video to made for kids. 7/16
Again the same song and dance happens, and once again the appeal gets rejected. Jurassic Park is DEFINITELY not for small children, it contains horror and death elements so whoever is making these appeal decisions probably shouldn& #39;t be. 8/16
It& #39;s baffling to me that it& #39;s so difficult to get in contact with a human on YouTube support. If not for the fact that Steve had friends and fans to push his predicament to be seen by support, it probably would have been left in the dark. It& #39;s seriously worrying for smaller- 9/16
channels that don& #39;t have a fanbase to support them and be seen by YouTube. Effectively having little to no light shined on resolving their issues. 10/16
Most of the time the Youtube Twitter support makes no sense. Here& #39;s an example of them telling someone that they are reuploading content when they in fact create their own original content. 11/16
This isn& #39;t anything new, another friend of mine @Pokemanaphy had his channel flagged for a video HE DIDN& #39;T MAKE on a playlist on his channel. They didn& #39;t even specify which video it was even though there are a couple hundred of videos in his playlist. 12/16
Steve isn& #39;t the only channel that appears to be affected by this as other channels such as Sasso appear to be also having the same issue, indicating that the YouTube algorithm detects Sonic/Animation and automatically assumes it& #39;s children& #39;s content. 13/16
@YouTube needs to get their act together and fix this. Creators need HUMANS to work with. This used to be the greatest platform for creators to express their creativity & thoughts. Now it& #39;s been "baby-proofed" cause parents don& #39;t know how to monitor what their kids consume. 14/16
Main thing to take away is just because some piece of media is animated DOES NOT MEAN IT& #39;S FOR KIDS. That should already by clear from the existence of medias such as adult swim and anime. Why give creators the option to set if a video is for kids or not when you& #39;re just- 15/16
GOING TO SET IT YOURSELVES. YouTube is some peoples full livelihoods and restricting them in this manner shows that YouTube undermines creators rational to decide for themselves who their target audience is. YouTube please get your shit together.... 16/16
If you guys can, pls consider supporting Steve. Only $1 on his or his girlfriends patreon. If his videos continue to get flagged like this then it means he may not be able to give the channel his full attention anymore.https://abs.twimg.com/emoji/v2/... draggable="false" alt="❤️" title="Rotes Herz" aria-label="Emoji: Rotes Herz">
