I'm a fan of @ErickErickson, so I'm really disappointed that he tweeted this w/o doing his homework about the foster care report that @NaomiSRiley is criticizing.

As a foster & adoptive parent, a few folks have asked my opinion of her op-ed. So, here's the truth. (1/5) https://twitter.com/EWErickson/status/1389963343969112068
Her op-ed mischaracterizes the report & recommendations from the child welfare community about transracial adoption.

I know anything labeled "woke" is popular on social media right now, but Christians must be slow to follow culture & mislabel racial ideas. [James 1:19]  (2/5)
. @Bethany supports transracial adoption & always has. In fact, they defended Coney Barrett's adoption of Black children (as did I). But like most child welfare agencies, they encourage preparation & cultural education before adopting children of a different race or culture. (3/5)
I speak at lots of adoption conferences (like @OrphanAlliance). The most questions I get are about challenges w/ transracial adoption. #FosterCare & #adoption are hard.Adding racial differences (hair care, etc), disability, trauma, or language differences makes it harder. (4/5)
w/o training & preparation, some adults who take a "race doesn't matter" approach can actually make it even harder on foster kids. That's what the Bethany report says & what the child welfare community believes. I'm happy to discuss more w/ folks.
#FosterCareAwarenessMonth (5/5)
Dang! I tagged @EWErickson at the wrong handle. Ugh.

In honor of #FosterCareAwarenessMonth, I hope Erick sees this & reconsiders spreading misinformation about this fake "Wokeness Has Come for Adoption" narrative.
