If anybody needed an argument for why single payer healthcare is the answer, please buckle in for this fun ride. As of this morning, @BCBSOK no longer licenses with @StFrancisOK, the largest hospital system in Tulsa, and the only pediatric center in our city. 1/5
This comes 2 mo after @BCBSOK stopped contracting with @OUHealth in OKC. What that means is that my 3 year old son with cystic fibrosis no longer has a CF center in the state of Oklahoma that our insurer is contracted with. Oh, and @BCBSOK does not allow exceptions, 2/5
so now we have no option for CF care within a 300 mile radius that my 3-yr-old can access. I've discussed with @BCBSOK to confirm, and they could offer me no other options besides driving to Kansas City, Dallas, or St. Louis for care. This is 'good' employer health insurance. 3/5
Both my husband and I have good jobs with large employers, and unfortunately they both use @BCBSOK. (It's the largest insurance provider in the state). I'm now looking to see if I can get my son onto public aid health insurance based on his underlying medical condition. 4/5
This is absolutely absurd. I am a physician. I am a parent of a child with a complex medical condition. I am convinced that the only people who 'like' their private insurance are people who have never had to actually use it. This needs to change. 5/5
