WHAT IS FOC?FOC stands for Final Order Cutoff—the last day comic book stores can tell publishers like DC Comics, "Hey! I want XYZ number of copies of DC Pride #1!" The accumulation of these orders helps us set our PRINT RUN aka how many copies we tell the printer to make.
WHY PREORDER?When you put a preorder in with your local comic store ahead of FOC, that store can feel reasonably assured that they've sold one unit of that comic. Comic stores operate on thin margins! So there's not a lot of room to order an abundance on the hope people...
...will show up to buy them. That's what makes the preorder SO incredibly crucial—it says out loud, "Hell YES, store, there's demand for this book (or this type of book)!" and, "Hell yes, publishers, please make MORE of this and we'll be there with bells on when you do!"
Also! This thread doesn't JUST apply to DC Pride #1 or Crush & Lobo #1. Excited about those GORGEOUS #DCPride variants for Batman, Harley Quinn, Wonder Girl, Nightwing, Superman, Wonder Woman, and Teen Titans Academy? You can preorder those too! Or ANY comic you're excited about!
tl;drIf you're pumped for all the amazing #DCPride offerings we've got coming in June, preordering is an easy way to make it clear that there's a market for them. And that's how publishers decide what to do NEXT. So please take a little extra time to preorder—it matters!
