In the strongest possible terms we oppose the UK government proposal to cut funding for art and design courses by 50% across higher education institutions in England.
The proposal is in direct contradiction to the widespread recognition of the @CreativeIndsUK estimates that show the GVA (gross value added) to the economy made by the creative industries has increased 43% since 2010 – more than twice as fast as the growth of the UK economy.
Craft sales alone were worth over £3bn in 2019 and the reduction in 3D creative subjects across the formal education system will have an extremely negative impact on the UK’s design and manufacturing capabilities.
