The lack of basketball knowledge by media members is actually quite astounding. I think much of the discourse surrounding Nikola Jokic is the media’s inability to identify his body, look, heavy Serbian-accent and play-style with historical greatness. Since many of them...
Cannot simply liken a ‘historically dominant player’ with what they are now seeing from Jokic, they become condescending and dismissive of his game. Even equating Jokic’s game to Arvydas Sabonis and Bill Walton vastly undersells his impact on the NBA floor...
Nikola Jokic is a one-of-one player in NBA history which means we have a BRAND NEW player archetype by which we can now judge NBA greatness but instead of the media resetting its MVP qualifications, many are still attempting to measure the unmeasurable by a...
Flawed premise that needs to be updated. I’ve said before, that the NBA media at-large is always a-year-behind when it comes to evaluating new talent because it has not yet updated the parameters of ‘greatness’. They can understand the greatness of Zion Williamson (Shaun Kemp)...
Luka Doncic (LeBron James), Giannis Antetokounmpo (Kareem Abdul-Jabbar), Chris Paul (John Stockton), Joel Embiid (Shaquille O’Neal) and others because there are historical comps to their game that make their transitions to ‘Superstar Status’ much more feasible...
Nikola Jokic, though, is the first of his kind. This is why takes on Jokic from Nick Wright, Kendrick Perkins, Brandon Marshall, Skip Bayless, Brian Windhorst and others, are so painstaking. It’s not as much an evaluation of Nikola Jokic’s greatness as much as it is their...
A display of their own ignorance (meaning lack of precedent) in how to identify that Jokic is not just, “the best offensive center in the NBA” or “the best passing big SINCE Bill Walton” or “ one of the best offensive players in the NBA.” But rather he is a...
Historically great player who fits an archetype the NBA has never seen before. Thus, let’s judge him according to his own greatness and evaluate him in accordance to how great he will continue to become.
In my mind the ONLY comp that actually fits is Larry Bird BECAUSE only Larry Legend has embodied Jokic’s level of clutch, grit, ingenuity, scoring, passing and playoff performance.
But Jokic is still another kind of historically great player who will be a First Ballot Hall of Famer, in his own way.
