19 Life Lessons I Learned the Hard Way

// Thread //
1. Learn to Unlearn

We learn many things in our youth - especially in school.

As you grow up, you realize that what you learned in school often does not apply to life.

When you are willing to unlearn your old habits and relearn new habits, you will be unstoppable.
2. Failure is Part of Success

Like Yin and Yang, failure and success are parts of a whole.

You cannot have success without failure.

Alexa, the technology from Amazon, was created as a result of one of Amazon's biggest failures: The Fire Phone.

You either win or you learn.
3. Your Health is Everything

Stop "saving" money by buying cheap junk food instead of buying fresh, organic food.

Don't be penny wise and pound foolish, because you'll likely pay with your health.

Remember that you cannot enjoy your wealth if you are in bad health.
4. Your Network is Your Net worth

Graduating from school and getting your diploma is important.

But a piece of paper - your diploma - will only get you so far.

It is the people you know that will actually open the doors to your future.
5. Worrying is a Waste of Time

One of life's most useless activities is worrying.

And typically, your worries never come to fruition.

You're only going to waste your precious time if you keep worrying.

Instead of worrying, start doing.

Actions will crush your worries.
6. You're Always Going to Be Judged

No matter your outcome, you are always going to be judged.

You can be the most successful person in your industry and people will still find excuses to look down on you.

You can never make everyone happy.

Instead, make yourself happy.
7. Comparison is the Thief of Joy

The more you compare yourself to others, the more unhappy you will be.

It's unfair to match yourself against people you don't know.

The only person you should be comparing yourself to is the old you.
8. Regret Hurts More than Failure

Don't fear failure.

Fear not trying.

Imagine being 90 years old and regretting an opportunity you missed.

Seize your opportunities and even if you failed, at least you know you gave it your all.
9. Perfection is an Illusion

There is no such thing as perfect.

There is no person who is perfect, no business plan that is perfect, and no life that is perfect.

If you wait for the "perfect time" to start, then you'll be waiting for a very long time.
10. Cut out Toxic People

People will either energize you or drain you.

When you hang out with the right people, you'll feel mentally, emotionally, physically, and financially healthy.

Be as selective as possible when choosing your friends.
11. You Become What You Believe

You will believe what you tell yourself.

If you tell yourself that you're a failure and that you'll never amount to anything, you'll believe it.

If you tell yourself that you're a winner, you'll believe it.

Be careful what you tell yourself.
12. You're Not as Smart as you Think

You may know a lot, but you're never going to know everything.

Instead of talking to talk; ask, listen, and learn.

Never ever lose your childlike curiosity to learn.

The day you stop learning is the day you start dying.
13. You Can Choose Your Family

Yes, you have a biological family.

But your trusted friends can also be your family.

Find friends that lift you up, inspire you to become a better person, and stick by your side even during the lows.

Quality over quantity. Always.
14. Do the Tasks You Hate - and Do Them First

Finish the tasks you hate, first thing in the morning.

When you complete the hardest thing first, the rest of your day will be a smooth ride.

Discipline yourself to complete the hardest tasks and you'll feel more accomplished.
15. Animals Are Your Best Friend

Animals can really be your best friend.

They are always loyal, they never judge, and they are always by your side no matter how you look, how you feel, or how your day went.

Animals are like family members.
16. Be Kind

It doesn't matter if someone is a CEO or part of the cleaning crew.

You should always be kind and respectful to everyone, regardless of their position or background.

Treat others the way you want to be treated.

People will never forget how you make them feel.
17. Stop Trying to Make Someone Love you

You cannot force love.

Stop trying to be someone you are not.

Be true to who you are, and if someone doesn't love you because of who you are, then they were never made for you in the first place.

You deserve better.
18. Happiness is a Choice

Life will always throw challenges your way.

Life will not be fair.

Life will be difficult.

It is up to you to see the positives and the opportunities.

If you seek happiness, you will find happiness.
19. Don't Forget to Live

We talk so much about the future that we forget to live in the present.

Don't forget to stop and smell the roses.

Life will pass you by if you don't remember to enjoy what you have built.
