Belladonna and now lily of the valley... Both poisonous plants.... and how it seems to tie to the new hunter?? Interesting
That fern...... that Greek alphabet... Shaking!!!!!!!!
(tweeting this for my own record bc i love plonts n i get excited whenever this motif is used in a story)
i had difficulty deciphering the name of the fern ( i thought it& #39;s gonna be its scientific name) considering some Greek alphabet can be read two-ways
i had difficulty deciphering the name of the fern ( i thought it& #39;s gonna be its scientific name) considering some Greek alphabet can be read two-ways
but further browsing for hints, the reading of the Greek letters r most likely "gnothi seauton" and it doesn& #39;t have anything to do about ferns (sad face) but ties to a poem by Ralph Waldo Emerson of the same title! https://learn.saylor.org/mod/page/view.php?id=19064">https://learn.saylor.org/mod/page/...
what captured my attention the most is the meaning of gnothi seauton: "know thyself"
(accidentally clicked tweet lmao) which i find interesting bc it ties well to idv& #39;s concept of identity (i just did a quick screening of the poem and it also reflects this idea)
i& #39;m gonna read the poem again cuz i have to be afk rn, but it piques my interest! i remember distantly nature being a very important element in RWE& #39;s philosophy so i& #39;m rly excited to read more :D
aside from RWE& #39;s poem, another interesting thing i found is that the title of the poem itself (know thyself) is apparently 1 of the 3 main Delphic maxims (maxim is "an expression of a general truth or principle", so sth like a proverb ig?).
The other 2 of Delphic maxims are: "nothing in excess" and "surety brings ruin". User wiki_identityv in their tweet pointed out this might have something to do with dolphins (family name& #39;s Delphinidae and there seems to be a dolphin skeleton in the other test tube)
but i also think the Delphic maxim can be another motif or a philosophical background of the upcoming hunter (the mermaid?); i gotta do a more in-depth reading on those maxims ww https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=7TjNCeR0_tY&ab_channel=IdentityVCommunity">https://www.youtube.com/watch...
Following the mermaid& #39;s toxic flora motif, i think larkspur (genus Delphinium; they& #39;re gorgeous i love them sm) can also be connected to the "Delphis" keyword https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Delphinium ">https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Delp...
"Pelorus Jack", which is a note on the test tube containing (most likely) dolphin skeleton is apparently a (historically famous) dolphin that was known for escorting boats from Pelorus Sound to French Pass in New Zealand https://teara.govt.nz/en/photograph/4696/the-story-of-pelorus-jack">https://teara.govt.nz/en/photog...
(me quickly moderating my hope for Māori culture and folklore for the new hunter bc, u know Netis, but also hoping, but also moderating, but also hop-)
ah but now the fern motif fits and makes sense!? The silver fern (Cyathea dealbata) is 1 of New Zealand& #39;s icons https://www.tepapa.govt.nz/discover-collections/read-watch-play/maori/significance-silver-fern">https://www.tepapa.govt.nz/discover-...
I GOT SIDETRACKED BY THE PLANTS, MY BAD! i was talking about Pelorus Jack the dolphin
https://abs.twimg.com/emoji/v2/... draggable="false" alt="🙇♀️" title="Frau verbeugt sich tief" aria-label="Emoji: Frau verbeugt sich tief"> Pelorus Jack was identified as a Risso& #39;s dolphin (Grampus griseus), an uncommon species in NZ waters.
Its sex was never identified but i& #39;m still gonna call it a gud boi bc it& #39;s reported to accompany ships from Pelorus Sound to the French Pass, which is a "notoriously dangerous channel" for 24 years since 1888

2 of my reading sources state different things about whether it guided ships through the French Pass or just to its entrance, but the fact it still continued swimming along those boats after it got shot in the 1900s made me feel so

Pelorus Jack& #39;s death was a mystery; some claimed it& #39;s harpooned while another suggested it died of old age. At this point i was like pien
https://abs.twimg.com/emoji/v2/... draggable="false" alt="🥺" title="Pleading face" aria-label="Emoji: Pleading face"> but then remembered the new hunter& #39;s harpoon motif (most likely their weapon?!) smh
i wanna try finding any connection between the substances (from the flora) to panic disorder, but this gotta wait bc i have to make a (most likely long) phone call tonight
Pushing this thread up so when I& #39;m home later I& #39;ll find it easily when I continue my research
