We are 25 minutes into the India government health briefing and no one has mentioned the critical oxygen shortage the country is facing ... they've listed some Youtube treatment protocol webinars and now we are into a long explanation on variants.
Nothing on the slowing of India's vaccination rollout due to a shortage of doses, nothing on how global aid coming into the country is being distributed, nothing on today's record death toll or the chronic undercounting of cases and fatalities ...
We had this story this morning that forecasts India's death toll may double, and said the country is probably only counting 1/4 of its cases. https://www.bloomberg.com/news/articles/2021-05-04/covid-forecasters-warn-india-deaths-may-double-in-coming-weeks
40 minutes into the briefing, we are still on variants. Don't get me wrong, variants are important but the attention of every citizen is focused on this frightening & harrowing health emergency & how the government is going to deal with it.
65 minutes into the briefing we finally get some detail on the aid effort: Foreign aid coming from outside is monitored by a group made up of ministry and additional secretary level officials...
Briefing is over.
Here are some slides that were shown during the presentation ... this information is important, but we know it is incomplete due to undercounting and poor data collection
