I mean, we the readers and Luke know the WHY, but we don’t know the HOW of Palpatine basically blasting a quickie revenge plan into her brain.

In Zahn’s defense, at this point all we knew about the Emperor was ESB/ROTJ so we didn’t really have the whole Sheev story, much less his method of chain smoking apprentices.

I can see them reusing the Katana fleet for Thrawn & Ezra (& Ahsoka?) purposes. This one would be pretty easy, just make it originate with a planetary defense force instead of the OR.
