I haven& #39;t been posting about my Art for awhile, because I kept being diverted by politics and gender critical views. However, when I really think about it they& #39;re all part of the same movie.
As wāhine Māori, I have very strong and dogmatic views about the defined role of wāhine, in this world, and in at least 10 others.
Whakapapa wouldn& #39;t exist without the role of the female / woman.
Whakapapa wouldn& #39;t exist without the role of the female / woman.
The worldview I depict in my Art, is matriarchal to the core. The dominant line is through Papatūānuku, Hineahuone, Hinetītama, and Hinenuitepō.
The difference between Whakapapa and DNA is that whakapapa starts in the spiritual realms.
Wāhine Māori all have whakapapa to Atua wāhine.
In my worldview, there is no need, or desire, or rationale, to transistion out of skin, body, and or mind.
But I digress. Te Pō is the worldview, and here is no 2/24 of a series of drawings depicting a bush walk. This is Waharoa.
Waharoa are gateways, or entranceways between domains / realms. This waharoa is an entranceway going from the light into the night.
The curved lintel alludes to the tīpuna whare, Wairaka. Her ceiling is curved. This waharoa is only two feet wide to denote an individual& #39;s journey into the night.
