nobility themed fem joongdok au (gfs?) (if continued then maybe fantasy too?)
yjh is the first daughter of a duke family while kdj is the only daughter of a baron family. they are in a very "close" friendship, but nothing is official between them
kdj is the quiet looking girl that is always seen reading a book everytime yjh sees her. even at their first meeting, kdj was still with her beloved books...
"this girl is a book freak," yjh thought as she silently looked at how kdj just nonchalantly slapped a count's daughter for tearing a page out of her book.
"You...! a baron's dau-"
kdj picked up the torn paper. "Do this again and i'll give your left cheek a little pat too."
the count's daughter was baffled, kdj was indifferent as she walked away, and yjh was slightly intrigued.
a mere daughter of a baron dared to slap a count's daughter? maybe this girl isnt as quiet as she thought.
but well, that was it. yjh was never one to care much about people.
their first time interacting was when the king held a party in the royal palace. yjh doesnt like noisy places so she went to the garden, obviously not to look at the flowers, but to do her sword practice (she left her sword in the carriage and asked the driver to bring it to her)
"i dont think practicing sword while wearing a heavy dress is a wise thing to do at night?"
yjh silently eyed the person who just talked. this person... is she that book freak? yjh didnt respond and kept swinging her sword.
"be careful not to accidentally slash a passerby,"
"is a sword really that heavy? or do people just exaggerate?"
"why does a duke's daughter like you love sword that much anyway?"
god, this person is not quiet at all, isnt she.
yjh stopped and lowered her sword. "and why does a baron's daughter like you love reading so much anyway."
kdj's eyes widen, "how do you know?" she walked slowly to where yjh was standing, "do you know me?"
"I dont."
"but you did see me... with the count's daughter at the garden that day, right?"
yjh frowned a little. why did she bring this up?
kdj saw the frown on yjh's face and smiled. "i want to say thanks," she sat down on a garden chair nearby, "for helping me."
is this girl's memory messed up?
"i did not help you," yjh corrected.
a light chuckle was heard... and it sounded kind of sweet. "yeah you didnt, not directly anyway. but that girl was trying to get me in trouble, and you straight out told her to stop lying."
(all yjh did was say "you tore her book for no reason, she wasnt that wrong to slap you" when that count's daughter tried to lie and say that kdj slapped her even though she did nothing wrong...)
"i'm kim dokja. can i call you yoo joonghyuk? do i need to be formal, miss yoo?"
"...do as you wish." not that she cares.
kdj's smile deepened as her eyes slowly forms a crescent moon shape. somehow, it looked brighter than the actual moon above them.
"okay then, joonghyuk-ah."
at first, kdj was the only one trying to form a proper friendship between them, but it was hard considering kdj's social status is below yjh's. she couldnt easily come to see her, couldnt freely talk to her in front of other aristocrats. kdj just didnt know what else to do...
maybe yjh doesnt want to be friend with someone of lower status?
that thought stopped her from chasing after yjh so much, without knowing that her decision made the other person gradually annoyed by the sudden change in kdj's behavior...
a letter came to the baron's estate. "the library here is big.
come here to read, kim dokja."
even yjh didnt know what posessed her to send that letter. why did she feel so empty without kim dokja around? why is she uncapable of feeling relaxed when kdj is not beside her?
months passed by, and now they are in this weird state of 'friendship', the kind of friendship where the slightest touch frees the butterflies inside their stomach, where the taste of lips still lingers even though it was only a light peck....
light peck becomes longer, slowly turns into kisses. slight touches turns into fingers intertwined. why does this feel so wrong, yet also so right? more importantly, why does this feel so... normal? like this is what they're supposed to do from the start?
yjh knows what this relationship is. kdj does, too. but nothing is ever made official between them because living as both a woman and a nobility means that they're only here to be wed to a man, no? does society even have place for two women who love each other?
and so, the "i love you" was never said. they are afraid that if they were to put it into words, their feelings will grow stronger, which will only harm them even more in the end...
"what are you reading?"
kdj looks up to see yjh in her training uniform, still sweating after finishing her sword practice.
"nothing too interesting," kdj replies while closing the book. she lightly taps the chair beside her. "sit down. you're blocking the sun, you know."
the empty seat beside kdj is soon filled with yjh's presence. "why wont you just be honest," she continues after sitting down and placing the sword near her, "that you actually want me to keep you company?"
"i never said that?"
"not explicitly, but you certainly did."
kdj scoffs, "you dont have to, my book is already here with me. it's more interesting than you."
yjh frowns as she doesnt know whether to pinch kdj's cheeks for saying that or kiss her instead for being so adorably untruthful.
"you didnt borrow this from the library?" as she took it from kdj's hand, the book slowly turns until the cover can be seen. upon reading the title, yjh's frown deepens.
"Kim dokja," it comes out stern, "I thought i told you not to read this again."
it's a book about witchcraft.
"calm down, joonghyuk-ah. im just reading it, not practicing it..."
yjh grits her teeth, not swayed by the sweet sound of kdj saying her name affectionately. "you know that witchcraft is forbidden here. why would you read this."
"...no reason."
"then dont read it anymore."
"can you just give it back to me? joonghyuk, please?"
they're staring at each other, neither of them backing down. after seconds of pure silence, kdj sighs and pecks on yjh's lips while snatching the book away.
"thanks, joonghyuk-ah."
