NEW: Many businesses are saying they can& #39;t get enough workers to fill empty roles right now. I wanted to learn more about the businesses that are finding luck with recruiting workers to see what& #39;s been successful. My search started with an ice cream parlor in Pittsburgh& #39;s Strip District that got *a ton* of local media coverage last month when it announced it& #39;d start offering wages at $15 an hour. The result? (2/6)
Next, I learned about a new sports bar in Cranberry that& #39;s offering a guaranteed $20/hour for servers/bar staff if they don& #39;t average that rate by the end of the week with their tips, something its owner decided to do so he& #39;d have enough staff for the bar& #39;s grand opening. (3/6)
Now, the parlor and sports bar have staff to open with more hours, but what about businesses that aren& #39;t in food service? Look at Kennywood Park, which revamped its hiring efforts late last month and with significant increases to its wages. Noticing a trend yet? (4/6)
84 Lumber went about its recruiting efforts by hosting a hiring event at a local hotel. It wanted potential applicants to know that it& #39;s a company that loves promoting from within and one that offers plenty of opportunities. But it also explicitly made note of its wages. (5/6).
So what did I find? Employers that state their wages are having success at filling empty roles, so long as the wages are ones that are at least nearly double the federal minimum of $7.25/hour. But that& #39;s not all! Check out the full story at the top of this thread for more. (6/6)
