Carter recounted what is apparently Trump's most current objection to the 2020 election, which is that maybe too many poll workers were Democrats instead of Republicans.
That point resonated with Carter, who said his own district was short on poll workers this past November. 2/

Carter said Trump has a "legitimate argument" the election was stolen but that it's not clear that it's worth trying to overturn the election at this point or to focus singularly on ensuring "legitimate people" vote in the future. 3/
Allowing early voting would mean that a substantial share of the voters who waited in long lines at hundreds of polling places throughout Mississippi would, next time, opt to vote early in their county courthouses instead. 4/ https://www.mississippifreepress.org/11740/not-a-partisan-issue-mississippi-early-voting-initiative-earns-naacp-black-caucus-support/
To that end, moving a significant amount of voting from polling places throughout the state into the county courthouses by allowing voters to opt into early voting would address Trump and Carter's concern in two ways: 5/
First, it is extremely difficult to find enough poll watchers to observe hundreds of polling places throughout the state at the same time. 6/
Therefore, moving a significant amount of voting to courthouses in Mississippi's 82 counties would make it easier and more practicable for any person or group to observe a greater portion of total voting activity.
You know, to be sure the voters are "legitimate people." 7/

Second, the more voting activity occurs at Mississippi's county courthouses, the fewer poll workers we will need on election day. 8/
Reducing Mississippi's demand for poll workers would make it easier to rely on our most seasoned poll workers—which would, In turn, lower the risk going forward that polling places throughout the state will be inundated with new workers who only sign up to steal an election. 9/
