Line of Duty characters as journalists: a thread.

Ted Hastings: news editor. Been on the paper for 30 years. Dispenses wisdom and guides the stories. Occasionally loses his shit but always has a 350-word story up his sleeve

Kate: chief sub. Making sure that all the pages are laid out and all the stories on it are subbed. Keeps plates spinning with minimal swearing. Very up for a beer after the edition.

Steve: chippy reporter. Bit too fond of the sound of his own voice; tendency to go off-piste and not check in with the news desk. Form for byline banditry, but usually delivers - eventually.

Jo: senior reporter. Family connections with the board means she's risen rather too quickly through the ranks, pissing off the other reporters. Good at covering the courts.

Dot Cottan: long-serving hack. Hasn't risen as fast or as far as he'd like, and resentful about it. Known to chuck colleagues under the bus, but good at doorstepping.

Ryan Pilkington: junior reporter. Drives the newsdesk mad; far too cocky.
