Dear United States of America:

You’ve been #Pulitzered…and we’re sorry.

Signed,

Johannes Gutenberg & James Franklin

P.S. Here's a thread about one of the biggest Ivy League University cover-ups in modern history—and you probably haven't heard about it until now. 🧵
1/x Everyone’s heard of the Pulitzer Prize.

But few know @PulitzerPrizes are nothing more than a glorified version of Columbia University.

This thread examines how @Columbia uses the luster of the Pulitzer name to manipulate U.S. print media outlets. https://www.pulitzer.org
2/x The @PulitzerPrizes Board is composed of journalists from the top U.S. print media outlets.

But Columbia University’s President, Lee Bollinger, lords over the Pulitzer Board, making the Pulitzer a direct extension of @Columbia & its related entities. https://www.pulitzer.org/board/2020
3/x Columbia’s control of @PulitzerPrizes allows it to leverage the "manufactured prestige" of the prize, to influence journalists to write the kind of stories that @Columbia deems “worthy". This comes at the expense of a free and independent press. http://bit.ly/Pulitz_CU
4/x Worse yet, Columbia’s control of Pulitzer makes print news outlets afraid to report news that is critical of @Columbia, shielding the University from bad press.

If it weren't for @DanaBashCNN, Columbia’s 30-year cover-up might be unknown outside NYC. http://bit.ly/Cvrup
5/x Despite Columbia's 30-year sexual abuse cover-up, little to no reporting has been done by @NYTimes @WaPo @USAToday @NPR @NewYorker. Ironically, "fear of Columbia” may explain why @Columbia's student newspaper has reported more on the cover-up than NYT. http://bit.ly/in_lumine
7/x Since journalists know Columbia University ≈ @PulitzerPrizes, it's disappointing—but not surprising—that none of those @LATimes “Investigative Reporters” asked Pres. Bollinger about the active 30-year cover-up of his own OB/GYN's sexual abuse at @Columbia and @NYPHospital.
8/x Nobody benefits from @ColumbiaJourn’s bogus @PulitzerPrizes that cause US print media outlets to be unwilling to publish news reports that are critical of @Columbia—either bc their journalists are on the Pulitzer Board, or bc they're afraid of being passed over for a prize.
9/x We're at the point where corporate interests are now controlling the press and silencing diversity of speech.

The next tweet contains the contact info for the @PulitzerPrizes Board. Please R/T it to remind them that we need — and support — a truly Free & Independent Press.
