A summary of the storyline in the OnlyOneOf universe
This is only a theory, and as things continue to be revealed and discovered, some aspects of it could be debunked in the future. If you haven't read it yet, here is a thread that serves as proof and background information for the theme of this thread https://twitter.com/oooverse/status/1386350620408389634?s=20
The Self is something we must strive for to obtain in our lives; the unity of consciousness and unconsciousness; the totality of body and mind. In the storyline of OOO, we see them go through the process of individuation to achieve the Self.
Circles and mandalas are common imagery in their music videos, which are symbols Jung uses to represent the Self
The way their structural universe map is built is also similar to the sphere of Sacrobosco/Ptolemy's celestial spheres, a geocentric model of the solar system at the time. This model is divided into two: the ethereal and the elementary
The ethereal was made up of the heavens, circulating constantly and made up of quintessence, an element they believed that made up heavenly bodies. The elementary consisted of four elements which come together to focus on the circle; these are opposites that unite
This is a process reminiscent of individuation, as stated earlier. The Self is represented by God. Christ is the archetype of the Self. A man with this archetype can take on archetypal dimensions and appear in the place of God, so men act towards him like he is God
Before we begin to summarize the music videos, here they are in an order which seems to make sense to me... They show repeated processes of individuation throughout the music videos, so it is hard for me to tell if there is actually a chronological order for them.
In libidO, they eat the fruit because of their desire to be like God. This is the awakening of their ego consciousness. Man is separated from the original preconscious wholeness. The Tree of Knowledge makes them aware of opposites and urges them to self realization.
Theu are now moved into a world of conflict and uncertainty. We see this scene of them running in the end, in a place that has no one else but them. They have torn themselves away from the maternal womb of unconsciousness and have alienated themselves from humanity because
of how they are now a level above human. This is the vengeance of the gods.
Here we find out that individuation; the enlightenment, is also considered a sin, which could explain why they are asking for forgiveness in sage
In their teaser for lsg, we find the Ptolemy Alhazen problem in action. Light is the highest type of matter, close to the substance of God; source of life, source of the soul, which is our reason and psyche. We do not fully exist without the soul
Here is the Manichean understanding:
The universe came to life from two mutually divine elements, good and evil
1st — light and consciousness
2nd — chaos and persistence of amorphous matter. The union of opposites; of good and evil brings peace
Chaos occurs due to center, but it is the center of peace because its opposites are united (Philosopher's Stone) — this stone is achieved when base metals are turned into gold, a metaphor for wholeness
With Christ as the archetype of the Self, they must journey to hell first and integrate the collective unconscious (savanna). Before He ascended into heaven, He first became the Antichrist. One must first sink into unconsciousness to achieve the supreme clarity of consciousness
According to its official description, savanna is inspired by Charles Baudelaire and Arthur Rimbaud's works, which allude to hell and sin
AsOiaf's entire theme revolves around opposites, reminiscent of Jung's transcendent function. The conscious mind is on top; what is repressed must become conscious to create forward movement. It is a process of compensation which creates a third: the transcendent function.
Our aim must not be to eliminate the tension, but to understand its role in the self regulation of the psyche
As for the angel, it is once again another archetype. It unites the opposites and calls us to partake in the transcendent function. It guides us in individuation and carries the essential and divine identity.
The angel invites us to meet with a characteristic of our psychology that causes us great shame, an example of this being Jung's shadow archetype. This virtue that has gone wrong will help us develop and cause a shift in attitude.
OOO music videos are incredibly detailed so please do expect more in depth explanations soon!!
