Invite people to the path of your Lord with wisdom and kind advice, and debate with them in the most courteous way, for your Lord knows best who strays from His path, and knows best who is rightly guided (16:125)

If you don't learn self-discipline, courtesy, humility, patience, and gratitude during Ramadan, you have wasted your effort starving yourself for one month
If you are fasting, everyone else should be living as normal.

They don't owe you any (additional) respect merely for being able to abstain from food & drink, and neither should you shamelessly demand respect for the same.

It's a test for YOU, not for everyone else.
Note that the prohibition against eating in public is not a religious prohibition and is probably only enforced in a few countries like Malaysia.
Some of you may have caught the lady in the green tudung saying they are fasting according to the Qu'ran and not according to fiqh.

This should spur you into investigating what is fiqh and when the Prophet taught it.
