I wonder when the Chitrali community will address the suicide epidemic. It has ravaged Chitral. https://twitter.com/ChitralToday/status/1388877532821430273
One of the main reasons I’ve always used this small audience to advocate for basic things like roads and internet is because a lack of connectivity and isolation in hard terrains can breed a plethora of mental illnesses, most of which remain untreated and end like this.
Every other day we hear of some poor guy or girl jumping in the river to end it all. Lack of connectivity means lack of opportunities, a docile term for living life with perpetually nothing. It often has a toll on the person.
Though basic things like a TV or the internet or even roads must seem very trivial to those who have it, these things play a central role in the formation of a community. Something that Chitral lacks greatly at this point.
I know of way too many people who suffer from anxiety, depressions, panic attacks etc. And none of them can be treated until awareness is raised which isn’t possible until Connectivity is available.
