This is what I wish I knew starting out with NFTs, take it as what it is: A personal opinion that I know some share but DYOR and find your own path.
Sending your work to the wallets of big players seems appealing to get your name out there, we’ve all tried the first week and it’s not good for you.
The person receiving the work has no context and no control over what they get. If they want to get rid of it they have to spend money transferring or burning the token. That’s not a good start in the space.
But how do I promote my work? Well you don’t. You show who you are and how you work in your social network of choice (probably twitter for the best engagement with the community) and engage from an honest place with your audience
Engaging is not a trick, it’s just how us humans work. We need to trust each other and develop a relationship. It’s no different for collectors and artists. Trust is at the core of everything.
Trust: trust means confidence in the artist ability to do good work in the future but that’s only a small portion. Here are some other factors that determine trust:
The work you mint is your token supply, too much of it dilutes its value, too little might feel like you’re not working. The price of your work tells us if you’re trying to value yourself or if you’re trying to make bags quickly and leave.
Price/quantity are connected at the core of your pieces. The more supply (editions) the cheaper it should be. Now let’s go over quantities for a second: it’s normal to compare this to the physical world but that doesn't really work
For an artist in the physical world an edition of 100 is not that crazy, but in crypto 100 it’s just insane unless you’re beeple. Use this rule: 1 to 10. Depending on your case.
And for last, all those people saying they’re going to buy your work if you share it in a post are just lying. No real collector is looking for likes or retweets, those are just for social engagement.
Hope it helps, nothing is set in stone.
