As a bootcamp grad, I get the question: “is a coding bootcamp worth if?” a lot. My answer is “it depends”, which seems like a copout answer until you realize how much variance there is between diff bootcamps. https://twitter.com/film_girl/status/1388297636134879232
I feel like a lot of bootcamps sell fairytale narratives about evolving into an engineer after 3 mos of showing up and it’s misleading to set this expectation for students.
This, in turn, leads to hiring managers and other engineers having bad experiences with bootcamp grads, and then stereotyping all bootcamp grads as unqualified, which sucks.
Pivoting into eng is a really big career decision. As with any big career decision, it’s a good idea to think about what place will fit your goals best. There are so many bootcamps across swe, data sci, UX, product, etc. and doing due diligence is important.
Instead of being compelled by one off Twitter stories from the founders of bootcamps (who are incentivized to make $), I did due diligence speaking to grads about their exp in diff bootcamps. Grads don’t get paid to bring in new students.
