People who do not have American Southern English as one of your native dialects...

I have unfortunate news.
Y'all have been misled

I know you all think that "bless your heart" translates as "fuck you" (because you love to explain it to me)

But it actually means a lot of things
So in honor of Ichiban from Yakuza 7, who's heart I sincerely want to bless

I present a non-comprehensive number list of things "bless your heart" can mean

1) Fuck you

2) That's the cutest shit I have ever seen

3) We don't know why she's like that, we told her to srop
4) If you don't stop bothering me, something bad will happen

5) Someone just cut me off while I was driving and I am not pleased

6) Why have you done this?

7) No one likes you

8) Everyone loves you

9) Your behavior has been noticed but let's leave it there
10) My heart is bursting with joy

11) I am so mad I could spit

12) Go away

13) Never go away

14) Aww, he tried tho

15) They're never gonna get what you're saying

16) I'm good thanks

17) Stop repeating yourself

18) Please repeat yourself
19) Maybe this isn't what you meant?

20) This better not have been what you meant

21) That bitch I hate

22) My best friend who is amazing
Infinity etc.

Yes, these things DO contradict each other.

You have to figure it out thru tone and gossip and facial expressions.

And maybe you NEVER figure it out and no one will ever tell you, and that's probably for the best.

THAT is what the South is like
It really just means... bless your heart.

I just don't think it translates easily to anything else if you need it translated

because you either have the kind of culture where you use a bless your heart or you don't 🤷🏻‍♀️
If I had to pick what I personally think it means most often I would say probably...

Aww he tried. But I mean... you know what he's like. He is a dipshit but kind of a loveable one and he does try.

Or something with that kind of flavor, like exasperation but with love
See but also people use it when they are legit pissed off or just love something with fervor and sincerity

It's a very flexible phrase
