#ComradeHimbo launched today and we're already at the 50% mark!!!

https://bit.ly/ComradeHimbo Super happy to have contributed to the book with some sweet flower boys.

I talked a tiny bit about my process over here: https://mobile.twitter.com/mariabelhas/status/1385966353073459200?s=09
Back when @POMEmag announced the open call for #ComradeHimbo I knew I had to pitch them a story that combined two of my favourite subjects: people in love surrounded by plants AND people reclaiming their homes and organising a community around that
As a desert rat, the idea of community gardens as alternative spaces for socialisation and political engagement is very near and dear to my heart. Especially in these Ecological Apocalypse Times
Collectively built gardens will mean different things in different contexts, obviously, and it's interesting to think about how those meanings are directly tied to Bigger Political Changes https://www.researchgate.net/publication/309134487_Cultivating_alternative_spaces_-_Zagreb's_community_gardens_in_transition_From_socialist_to_post-socialist_perspective
The lesson to be taken from this is: you too can write a comic that combines your academic interests and your unquenchable thirst for silly romcoms
