"And the ends of the world shall remember and turn unto the Lord: and all the kindreds of the nations shall worship before thee" (Psalm 22:27).
When we read the book of Psalms, we're reading words that come to us from ancient Israel. We wonder if these words, from the book of Psalms, might have something to say to today's world. Here, the Psalmist speaks to us about remembering the Lord and turning to the Lord.
As we read these words, we must remember that we do not begin with our remembering the Lord and our turning to the Lord. We begin with the Lord's remembering us and the Lord's turning towards us.
This is where our worship comes from: the Lord has remembered us, the Lord has turned towards us. When we read the book of Psalms, we're brought into the heart of the worship, brought to the Lord, by the people of Israel.
Here, the call to worship is directed beyond the people of Israel. God is calling all nations to worship him. Wherever we are, wherever we come from, God is calling us to worship him. This is for everyone. It's for people in every place. Let us remember the Lord.
Let us turn to the Lord. Let us worship the Lord.
