1 year ago, I removed caffeine from my life!

Would I recommend it?

THREAD
I wasn’t crazy with caffeine, probably 1 cup of coffee in the morning and 1-2 sodas a day, so about 300-400mg a day - most average people consume this daily).
My life fell apart when the pandemic hit, on some days I was drinking a 2L of Diet Coke and 2 cups of coffee to “supercharge focus” and rush to work through the problems I had in my life.
I took naps at 2pm often, major afternoon crashes. My energy was either VERY HIGH or VERY LOW. No stability whatsoever, I thought this was normal.
I decided to read a book called Caffeine Blues and it opened my eyes to how caffeine works like a drug, because it is the most accepted & most consumed drug in the world.

(I do recommend reading this book and forming your own opinion).
I found out that my one cup of coffee was really 2 cups, and most peoples are, I was consuming more than I realized.

I have addiction in my family genetics and caffeine does causes changes in your body that make you need more and more to have any effect.
I also learned that caffeine is the most consumed drug in the world.

You may know this already, but it does stay in our system for at least 8 hours. It makes it hard to sleep, and ruins your sleep quality. I was consuming soda with dinner at 10pm. Of course I was crashing.
I decided since my life wasn’t going the way I wanted to, why not go cold turkey and try a 30 day cleanse to see if it changes my energy, because I was desperately looking for energy when majority of the time I had none...
I prepared up to a week of possible “sick” time based on what I was reading from others...first 2-5 days were rough. Massive headache, major fatigue, no motivation to live.
The next 3 weeks I felt mild fatigue, and then after about 25 days total I felt completely lifted from caffeine.

My “super high” productivity was gone, but now my energy was consistent, predictable. No more crashes!!!

Productivity this year has been way higher overall.
If I get 7+ hours of sleep, I’m fully awake for the entire day, if I get less, I’m tired. I have full awareness now of my energy levels, knowing why I’m tired now, instead of just feeling tired no matter what I did with sleep.
So - do I recommend it?

YES - but you aren’t necessarily destroying your life by choosing caffeine sometimes.

1 cup of coffee (half of most peoples normal) or around 200mgs daily IN THE AM seems to be the cap that allows you to have caffeine with no major energy adjustments.
If you’re the person who goes to get multiple servings of coffee and has a large soda with dinner like I was, I promise you a major answer to your energy you’re looking for is to eliminate caffeine from your diet.
Going cold turkey is not the only way to do this. There are systems out there for people to decrease intake over time, but takes discipline.

If you consume 1000mgs a day, I would not recommend going cold turkey.
Caffeine is not the only variable for energy. What we consume and our activity levels are the biggest component of this. Though whether you live healthy or not, caffeine will throw that system out of proper rotation, just like any drug.
I now can tell when I’ve eaten bad or well, how my energy is affected. I could not tell before because I was too clouded by constant fog at all times. Clear skies now!
I currently do not miss caffeine and have no interest to have caffeine again, I am happier and more energetic without it.

If I do have it again, it’s in small doses and not often. If I ever go back to my old habits, I know I’ll be living my life in a way that I don’t want to.
I was inspired by so many great stories last year, and I made this thread for people who were like me, looking for help.

If that’s you, this is your sign!

Feel free to ask me anything and I can go into more detail for you.

Thx for reading!
