I see convos come up a lot in both the arts and the occult in regards to accessible resources but around books, especially. I get it, these things add up. but there are just so many solutions to the issue of accessibility or affordability: we can buy ebooks, look things up on 1/
Google books or the Internet Archive, reach out to local libraries to ask for these books to be added; launch a community arts or occult library; set up mutual aid book drives for the community; share and exchange resources; whatever works but please, support paying authors!!
I'm adding to this thread because the subject of theft and not wanting to pay for books is evergreen. if people complaining about the cost of books were really grounded in their anti-capitalist practice, they would seek ways to support authors and small publishers *while* also 1/
providing ways to subsidize the costs of books and materials to those who can't afford them in their communities (some strategies already outlined upthread). mutual aid is not a donations system. it is a way of looking after the needs of people in your communities. 2/
this includes immediate needs *and* the provisions that nurture resource and knowledge-sharing. those who have more can buy books, materials, supplies for people who can't. to be creatively anti-capitalist & contribute to all members suffering capitalism, is in fact the point! 3/
