"And the heavens shall praise thy wonders, O Lord" (Psalm 89:5).
Does it ever feel like we are alone in this world? Does life in this world get us down? Do we need something to lift us up? Here, the Psalmist invites us to take a look around us, to catch a glimpse of God, our Creator.
There are plenty of people who look up to "the heavens", but they do not "praise God's wonders." How are we to get from looking up to the heavens to prasing God's wonders? When we look up to the heavens, we can say to ourselves, "This is too much for me to understand.
I'm not going to try and figure it all out. I'm just going to get on with living my life here on earth." We may think like this, and, then, have second thoughts: "Is there, perhaps, more than this?" Looking up to the heavens raises questions in our minds.
We wonder, "Are there answers to our questions? The Psalmist tells us that the heavens point us to the God who created the heavens. The heavens invite us to think about life's big questions.
However we may answer the biggest question, God or no God, we will need to have the humility that recognizes that we don't have all the answers to all of the questions that could be asked. Are we alone in this world?
Faith gives its answer: "And the heavens shall praise thy wonders, O Lord."
