i consume content with m/m, m/f, f/f, nb/m, nb/f pairings, monogamous relationships, poly relationships, fwb, aromantic relationships, asexual relationships, it doesnt matter!! there's nothing wrong with enjoying human connection and being fascinated by the nuance of sexuality
i think it's a bit ridiculous to police who can consume what. we learn so much about ourselves through fiction. some people live in environments where they didnt even know queer people existed until they read a fanfic or doujin etc
or in places where queerness is demonized. fiction can be the first time someone experiences queerness in a way that is fun and celebrated. there are a lot of trans people who didnt realize they were trans until they explored the topic through fiction!
i hope that people in the queer community (on twitter/tiktok especially) stop trying to figure out what is in a person's pants and who they enjoy kissing/not kissing and assigning them content they are "allowed" to enjoy depending on their own subjective rules.
nobody has it all figured out. identity can change over time and nobody is entitled to the details of your sex organs or gender identity or sexuality so they can tell you what media you're allowed to consume.
and yes, there are cases of "straight cis girls" being weird/hateful toward queer people irl while still consuming queer content. that is not the fault of the content, it's shitty people being shitty and they wouldve been shitty without reading that fic
i also want to add that it’s very important to learn about queer people outside of a fictional context because a fictional world that is meant to be entertaining doesn’t always have the room for accuracy or exact realism. please don’t get your sex ed from fiction or generalize
real people depending on how a person behaved in a fictional story. hopping right into sex with no protection or preparation and no aftercare or clean up is obviously not realistic but it’s not meant to be.
