Ok, here I go again. Gunna catch some flak for this thread…
For years, Māori have been hard done by in the systems we’ve had set up. They’ve had poorer outcomes in health, in education, in jobs, in crime, in lots of things. Not all mind you, but a disproportionate amount…

These aren’t my opinions either, those are facts. Now, we can argue the reason why this situation is until the cows come home, but it won’t change what has happened historically. Now, Labour and some Māori are pushing for that to be corrected, as I believe it should be…
But the way it’s being presented to the general public is causing division. I don’t believe setting up seperate systems for Māori in health and education and other areas is the way to go. We need a system that finally is equitable in its outcomes for all people…
The treaty was supposed to bring both sides together. Yes, historically one side hasn’t had fair outcomes, but that doesn’t mean overreacting and creating a two tier system. We need to find more ways to come together, not create division.
I’m tired of everyone having to take sides, and making it “Us vs Them” in almost every aspect of life these days. It doesn’t have to be this way.
Obviously, this argument is waaaaay more nuanced than this, there are many levels and details that can be argued back and forth…but in the end, I think we need to stop finding ways to divide us, and find ways that will serve everybody, no matter their race or background
