One thing you may not know about Akan (Asante) chieftaincy is that rulers used to be held accountable for their actions.

Because their subjects paid taxes and tributes to them, every year at at Adaekɛse, the chiefs accounted for what they had accomplished since enstoolment (1/4)

That is why, even till this day at every Adaekɛse Asantehene lists his achievements in front of the masses.
This is also why the formation and expansion of Asante is well documented (2/4)

Now, if a chief is found guilty of misappropriating funds, or scandalous activity, they are destooled. There have been multiple Asantehene& #39;s who have been destooled in the past for these reasons.
Due to this, the rate of development was a bit better than what we have now (3/4)

My opinion is, a lot of things that are happening now in the country probably wouldn& #39;t happen if we had still been under monarchical rule because at least they knew they could easily be destooled if their subjects weren& #39;t pleased. (4/4)
