why focus on investigating/knowing "our identities"? such an anti-relational, human-centric framing. why not focus on learning relations, both human & non-human? (which is not always lovey-dovey either). why does it have to be about us/me, the human subject? so Eurocentric.
when we say "stole my identity" instead of "stole our children," "stole the land," decimated & "stole our relationships with nonhuman relatives," this helps reinforce settler ideas that they don't have to restore what was stolen. they can just "respect our identity."
whatever "respect identity means." do a land acknowledgement? let us burn sage? wear regalia & dance at a settler political party event? the settler state doesn't want us to focus on relations--material things. b/c then they'd have to admit material restitution is necessary.
