my take on the “educate don’t cancel” thing as a whole. A thread.
If it happened in the past, and you can tell that the person has changed, then why bother. I know that it makes people feel bad, it has made Me feel bad. But what is changing by getting an apology for something that happened months or even years ago.
It’s different if it happened in the present, e.g. the Fundy situation. He didn’t think about how poor the jokes were and he had discussions with many people and doesn’t seem to have done it since.
one thing you have to understand is that since the time that one person did something bad, they may have been educated behind closed doors. they may have learned better off of the screen but you don’t know that.
just like how if someone is to give an apology, they could still be a shit person. If someone doesn’t have the best apology, they can be an amazing person with a great heart who just doesn’t know how to put things into words.
also, the “educating, not canceling” threads can be useful at times but they also very much seem to fuel hate in a lot of people. Its fucking gross and people need to learn to grow up and use common sense. End of thread.
