Had super high expectations for this 86 episode, because it has some of my favorite content from volume 1, and I really have to say that it hit all the right notes for me. The voice acting and music placement especially was simply incredible, couldn& #39;t ask for more
Lena& #39;s naivety has been on display in episodes 1-3 and having her ideals challenged here, not only by the 86 calling out her hypocrisy, but also her best friend and uncle telling her that there& #39;s just no other way around things is about as strong a mental block as you can get
A character coming to terms with the fact that their dream might be utterly unattainable, yet still deciding to pursue that unreachable ideal anyway is always something that I absolutely adore and it never fails to be a beautiful character showcase when done right
What I also love is the contrast between Lena and the other 86. Theo& #39;s brash remarks make him regret things because he has someone he looked up to who gave him hope that things could be better, just like Lena with her father
There& #39;s a lot more to 86 than just war and discrimination being criticized. It& #39;s an exploration of how power and privilege have the ability to change a hopeless world, how even after people die, they can be carried along, ideals and regrets both, by those who come to succeed them
One thing I wish they didn& #39;t skip this episode was Lena& #39;s monologue after being criticized by her uncle. I understand that being a monologue it& #39;d be hard to adapt, but I really liked that part so I wish it was integrated in some way, though Lena& #39;s resolve came through regardless
