Let’s have a conversation about how absurdly difficult our healthcare system can be for mental health issues. I have a diagnosed anxiety disorder that I take 2 daily medications to address to help me sleep & keep my anxiety in check /1
Doctors appointments, insurance issues, prescription refills are all huge anxiety triggers for me /2
NY law requires I have an appointment every 3 months to get my meds & that I can only get 1 months supply at a time. There are routinely issues with the pharmacy needing an extra confirmation or a prescriber wanting to see me more frequently /3
Because there are such strict rules about my meds supply it’s almost impossible to not to be constantly on the brink of running out. I’m always scared I’ll have to go a night w/o my meds. The one time I went 3 days w/o I had extreme side effects from withdrawal /4
There is no reason for the meds I take to be this controlled. They aren’t prescriptions that are commonly abused. But more than that there is zero help/sensitivity from prescribers that the system is contributing to my anxiety /5
These are the problems I face w/ access to meds and prescribers. These are the problems with that privilege.
