The spirit of Lee Atwater is still alive and well in today’s GOP. We hear the dog whistles. Folks like Mitch & Haley probably haven’t even read the 1619 project. But, why is it divisive to teach folks about the treatment of & contributions made by Blacks in this nation? https://twitter.com/nytimes/status/1388236904093601799">https://twitter.com/nytimes/s...
Our racial history as a nation is painful to say the least & that historic pain from unrelenting racial inequality is pervasive & still lives with us today. We can’t ignore it. We can’t forget it but must learn from it so as to be better, do better & make sure to never repeat it.
Kind of ironic that folks who won’t say a peep about grown folks dressed up and re-enacting battles of the war about slavery, yet are quick to want Black folks, who every day live with remnants of that period, to just move on. If it were just that easy.
Because this history makes you uncomfortable, should we not talk about it or educate our kids about it? Think about if the pain of that history was carried by your community? How do you think it feels seeing pictures of your people hanging from trees? Burned alive? Mutilated?
Part of the reason America is still drowning w/ the issue of race is because we never fully addressed it. We never had reconciliation or healing. Like in the story “The Ones Who Walked Away from Omelas”- some have locked racism in the basement, hoping to forget. Some of us can’t.
I can’t explain how tired I am carrying generations of pain & hurt. I’m emotionally spent but so many of us are just weary & tired of the bullshit & the privilege of those who think this is some political game. No matter the fatigue, we won’t let you steal our story & our truth.
