I very much understand SPF fatigue, but it’s not a money grab. SPF is considered a drug by the FDA because it prevents cancer which is why the “rules” seem so OD.

• SPF 30-50 is the standard recommended amount. You don’t need SPF 50+ but less than 30 isn’t enough 1/ https://twitter.com/_azryah/status/1388470698029498371
•Wear SPF inside is going to come down to a few things: Is hyperpigmentation a main concern? Does your home receive direct sunlight? Are you using actives that cause photo sensitivity?

For MANY of us, that’s multiple yes’s. If you got 2 out of 3, I recommend wearing inside. 2/
Now reapplication: Because SPF must create a film on the skin, it can easily run off, which is why reapplication is important. After 2-3 hours, you’re not getting whatever # protection is on your bottle.

BUT I am more lenient with darker skin. 3/
People Fitzpatrick scale 1-3 are at risk of death if they don’t wear SPF.

Fitz 4-6 does not have that same risk. Skin cancer on black people has not been linked to UV exposure. And black skin cancer deaths are related to under diagnosis & missing warning signs. 4/
For this reason I recommend reapplication at least once throughout the day for Fitz 4-6 to help
• Melasma
• Minimize sunburns
• Hyperpigmentation
• Photo-aging/maintaining collagen

I think we as professional lose people when we aren’t honest about the WHY and the RISKS.
