TW // violence , abuse , harm

! this thread contains the topic children violence and mentions different forms of it

i didn’t knew this before so i am just saying something now. yesterday was the day of nonviolent education and it’s a day for children’s rights.
especially in times like these, in the middle of a pandemic, due to more stress, pressure and being together more than usual, cases of violence at home have increased rapidly.
„the united nations convention on the rights of the child guarantees the right for children to be free from violence, including physical and mental violence, injury and abuse, neglect and negligent treatment, maltreatment or exploitation, including sexual abuse”.
even tho it’s a laid down right it sadly isn’t a matter of course to grow up in full love and safety. since i study childhood pedagogy the topic became even more important to me and i wanted to use my account here to share this.
prevention and sensitisation towards this topic are the most important things to fight against it, since the children right are currently, unfortunately, no part of the constitutional law.
the right to live without any form of harm goes for adults as well but i wanted to specify it on children for now. violence on children is still too often considered socially acceptable and tolerated. it’s NOT okay.
violence has many faces. besides physical abuse, it includes sexualised violence, as well as neglect and psychological abuse. children often experience several forms of violence. such experiences of violence can severely affect children's health and development, right now
in the present and in different forms, in the future, as they grow older. sometimes after-effects of such experiences only show up many years later but there as well it’s important to show and share awareness.
i just wanted to spread awareness about that topic. please always keep your eyes and ears open if you have assumptions of such things happening to someone and look up ways to help.
as i mentioned earlier prevention is one of the most important things. as an outsider, watch for changes in behaviour, be attentive and try to build trust.
if you’re getting suspicious don’t try to solve it by yourself. there are many advice centres to which you can easily reach out to.
if you’re affected yourself, i am so sorry this happened to you or is still happening. please reach out for help, if you can. i can’t do much but my dm‘s are always open. i will link some numbers and ways for help below.
