I was in an NFT clubhouse room the other day with a bunch of Black artists in the space and someone on stage said “do y’all feel like there are 2 sides of NFTs on this app?” speaking to how Black people feel and are treated in the space.
The amount of Black people who say they go into these larger rooms and try to talk but are almost instantly dismissed is actually kinda wild. I’m thankful to have built even this tiny platform where I can walk into an NFT room and be invited on stage & shit…
…but it’s also important that we get more and more people who look like me on board and educated and get their cultural perspective specific questions answered. My DMs are tons of people like “I asked a question but they just shouted out their friend instead of answered me”…
…& that’s why you’ll always hear me call the space, especially on Clubhouse, a circle jerk. I say all that to say, make sure you are being doubly aware when people you don’t know are speaking because they need it most.
We don’t need another room talking about how great Eddie Gangland is, we know that (you’re great Eddie). The same opportunities that people receive by getting a Spotlight room is barely passed on to us but it’s not because a lack of talent, but I would say…
…a lack of visibility, which is likely inadvertently created by the “with the homies” culture of NFT clubhouse.
Just a little morning rant. Let’s acquire this shmoney today.
