Their fundamental understanding of why we are in this mess is clearly flawed; or, their willingness to make a political statement is lacking. What we see here is not a technical failure. It is an abandonment of people by their government. It is a political failure.
As such, we need a political response to this challenge. And not a political response focused on what the US Govt is not doing, or focused on the TRIPS waiver. A political response clearly directed at the Indian govt. (3/n)
I have been screaming myself hoarse (figuratively) trying to convince all global health colleagues to direct their efforts towards the political advocacy and international pressure piece. But nobody seems to listen. I am so tired. (4/n)
Imagine if when Partition happened international actors had focused on the technicalities rather than the politics. It feels like that right now. What’s the use of all your study of India if you have no understanding of how center-state & right-wing politics have caused this? 5/n
In conclusion, I am tired, and this is an @IndiaCOVIDSOS @JohnsHopkinsSPH @USAID @GHP_HarvardChan @HarvardChanSPH and everyone else call-out. We need you to show courage and put pressure/spotlight on our Govt, NOT to create apps/raise funds for USbased orgs. (6/n)
Oh and the irony is that all these people will be writing papers about, shaping the narrative about and policy responses to, and making money/fame off of what's happening in India right now once all of this is over. (fin)
