Aww yeah! TERFs are trending. Means Trans-Exclusionary Radical Feminist, except there's nothing feminist about TERFs. They reduce women to their genitals, and claim gender isn't even a thing. They say TERF is a slur, but it was a cis radfem who coined the term. 1/

They don't believe in intersectionality, meaning they don't account for the differing experiences of women - no matter if they're Black or brown or Indigenous, rich or poor, abled or disabled. TERFs overwhelmingly tend to be white and upper middle class. 2/

And of course TERFs like to claim that trans women are men. They also like to other us with terms like "transwomen" (as if you would say tallwomen), or TiMs (trans-identified males). Don't fall for it - they are pernicious and malicious. 3/

And of course they sell the narrative that ROGD (rapid-onset gender dysphoria) is a virus that spreads among children, like a cold or the flu. In reality it's the parents who don't want to admit their kid might be trans. 4/

The ROGD narrative is boosted by authors like Abigail Shrier and journalists like Jesse Singal - none of whom have any medical training or expertise in this area.

No children are getting surgeries: early transition is a social support transition only. 5/

Teens get puberty blockers only if indicated after an assessment by qualified medical professionals, and surgeries don't happen until after 16, and only then if a person is determined to be a mature minor. There are international guidelines governing this: 6/

The World Professional Association for Transgender Health (WPATH) publishes its Standards of Care, which specifies the differing transition pathways for children and for adults - they are not identical. 7/

Finally, detransitioners - people who stop transitioning, or revert to their birth-assigned gender - are real and deserve support. The trans community has always supported them. 8/

However, they are nowhere nearly as prevalent as what TERFs (and the euphemistic "gender criticals") would have you believe.

In sum, TERFs are a blight on feminism, a danger to trans people, and especially to trans children. 9/

The real danger to women, as ever, comes from predatory cis men, not trans women. And there is no danger to girls' and women's sports from trans girls and women. 10/10
